NextPVR is comprised of a number of parts, each with its own purpose.
The main application.
NextPVR Recording Service (NRecord.exe)
This is a Windows Service, which runs in the background and manages scheduled recordings and serving data to any configured clients.
NextPVR Tray (NTray.exe)
Provides quick-launch access to NextPVR functions, device status and pending recordings. Read more.

Next-PVR Installation Directories
NextPVR is split between two directories
Default Program directory
- All 32 bit C:\Program Files\NPVR
- All 64 bit C:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR
Default Data directory.
The location of the data directory depends on the version of Windows you are running:
- Windows Vista, 7, Server 2008: C:\Users\Public\NPVR
- Windows XP, Server 2003: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NPVR
There are some files which are commonly referred to by pages on this site and on the forums. They are all found in the data directory.
NextPVR records everything it does to .log files, these can be found in the NextPVR data directory in the subfolder Logs. It can be useful to zip and attach a recent set of these logs when requesting support in the forums.
The primary NextPVR configuration file. Can be edited by advanced users to tweak NextPVR behaviour. See Advanced Configuration
The NextPVR configuration and recordings database. It stores information on your capture sources (tuners), available channels, recordings, EPG, and playback positions.
